After these daily basics the schedule can alternate quite a bit from week to week, but what follows is rough example of what to expect. Graduation is a recognition you will earn. You will attend a public ceremony attended by your friends and family as they come together to share in this significant and rewarding event. Your score on the academic test will be one of the factors used in your selection for Honor Graduate.
In the end, you will have gained a better understanding of a wide range of military subjects, and a better understanding of your own abilities. Each base is responsible for a specific portion of formal technical training airmen require to accomplish the Air Force mission.
Highly trained instructors conduct technical training in specialties such as aircraft maintenance, civil engineering, medical services, computer systems, security forces, air traffic control, personnel, intelligence, fire fighting, and space and missile operations.
Commissioned officers attend technical training courses for similar career fields at the same locations. Track your scores and history online to monitor your progress and watch your scores increase! Part of Air Force life revolves around physical fitness. The Air Force physical-conditioning program is designed to ensure Air Force members are physically capable of handling military duty, while maintaining good personal health and looking sharp in uniform.
A physically fit trainee has a greater chance of avoiding injury and graduating on time. Start an exercise program three times a week for 45 minutes a session. The program should emphasize muscular strength, flexibility and cardio-respiratory endurance.
Muscular strength is defined as the maximum amount of force a muscle can produce in a single movement. A training program using free weights is an ideal method to attain muscular strength and endurance. A well-rounded exercise program also requires stretching before and after any exercise. Five to seven minutes of stretching before and after a workout is a good standard. Stretching should be performed in a slow, controlled manner for 10 to 30 seconds with some tension in the muscle.
Avoid bouncing or using jerky movements because this may cause injury. Stretching helps flexibility and prevents common injuries, such as shin splints. In addition to strength, endurance and stretching, you should be prepared for the cardio-respiratory endurance challenge at BMT. Build your endurance through aerobic exercise of at least 20 minutes three to five times a week using such exercises as cycling, swimming, roller-blading, running and lap swimming.
Your Air Force basic training will involve extensive marching, conditioning classes, and the completion of a challenging obstacle course. Check out our section on push ups improvement to prepare for your training.
Week 1 is also when your weapon is assigned and analyzed. This is also the time for introductory classes on behavioral expectations and successful integration into your training group, and will include lessons on topics like appearance, cultural sensitivity, and suicide prevention. Week 1 begins individual and group drills. This is when the real fun begins. Week 2 takes the pace up a notch. Drill exercises will teach you how to move crisply as a group, with weapons and without, and teach postures and movements like parade rest, present arms, fix bayonets, and more.
PT will continue to ramp up, with strength days increasing in reps and intensity. Week 3 is a big one. Classroom sessions will turn to topics like basic leadership and character, cyber awareness, and public relations. Week 3 is when extra duty begins. These are team tasks like laundry, chow running, inspecting beds, guarding the roads during exercises, and dorm monitor.
These positions may be volunteered for or assigned to you by your MTI. Leadership and mentorship training will continue, with the overall goal to help you become a responsible team player and potential future leader. Intro to combatives in Week 5 begins hand-to-hand combat training. Your progress with overall skills development will be measured, including another look at your weapons and weapons maintenance know-how. Classroom time will focus on preparation for combat and include topics like the Air Force code of ethics and combat stress recovery.
Welcome to your final PT assessment. Recruits will defend their respective zones against attacks that will mimic chemical, guerilla, or conventional weapons and tactics. Zones are equipped with sleeping quarters, command tents, and field hospitals.
Your day will begin at and include daily intelligence briefings, manning defensive firing positions, and guarding camp. Week 8 is a time for celebration, but also preparation. Graduation occurs on a Friday, and the weekend following is filled with events for the family. This is a special time for airmen when they receive any awards or honors they achieved in BMT. Guests must pass a background check and have a photo ID in order to enter the base.
Guests will also need insurance and registration information for their vehicles. Remember when we listed a Visitor Access Request Letter as something to bring with you? No pets are allowed, with the exception of service animals. The ceremony itself will be livestreamed until further notice.
